Mother’s Day

We enjoyed a beautiful Mother’s Day outdoors riding bikes! It was Sloane’s first long ride and Reese & Quinn’s first time in our bike trailer. Now that Sloane is a “biker” (as she refers to it), it’s difficult for Reese to keep up with her smaller bike. The bike trailer was the perfect fix and Reese and Quinn had a great time being backseat riders. We rode along Lakeshore Drive for a few miles and stopped to enjoy the views along the way. I loved spending the day as a family and enjoying our 3 sweet girls!

One of the great things about having kids is watching each of them develop different tastes for different things. Sloane’s favorite park is the one with the most slides. However, for Reese, her favorite park is the one with the longest jogging track. Here is some video of Reese’s new love…running! She runs and runs, never breaking a sweat or even sounding the slightest bit winded. Or showing any sign of stopping.

We have some exciting news at the Anderson House! Well, if I’m being honest, it’s a bit sad! But all tears aside, our last “baby” is officially a BIG GIRL! Quinn is potty trained and has transitioned to a bed. That’s right, no more diapers or cribs in this house!

A little over a week ago Quinn developed quite an interest in using the potty so we took the signs and ran with it. We started the 3 day training on Sunday and she has been accident free since Monday! I thought for sure the 3 days would be pure torture (as I remember day 2 being the worst of them all with Reese) but she took right to it and hasn’t looked back.

With the transition to panties we also made the transition from a crib to a bed. We’ve always done the two together, so why change it up now!
Quinn was so excited to see Greg putting together her bed. She helped hand over the hardware and could hardly wait to hop in and try it out. Thankfully bedtime was close and she fell fast asleep like she’s been secretly sleeping in a bed for months. This girl is full of surprises these days.

A Day at the Zoo

Last Thursday the weather was warm and sunny so the girls and I hopped on the bus and headed to the Zoo. We intended to stay for an hour or two, but 5 hours later, we made it back home. Our zoo has an “endangered species” carousel that the kids have been dying to ride. Sloane and Reese loved it, but Quinn is still pretty unsure of such a contraption! There was so much to see and do and being outside on such a nice day was fantastic.

Globe Park

The girls and I discovered a new park while we were out walking on Monday. We’ve heard about it from friends, and finally stumbled upon it. It’s nestled between Soldier Field where the Bears play and The Field Museum of Chicago. It’s filled with sculptures of the earth and the girls affectionately refer to it as “Globe Park,” a nickname given to the park by their friend Romy. They played for nearly 2 hours while Olivia stood close by to make sure everyone was “safe!”

Little Swimmers

The fact that it’s only 45 degrees outside today didn’t’ stop us from going swimming…indoors of course!

A friend of ours had a play group at her indoor pool and we were thrilled to join some of our friends for a morning swim.

On the way home we stopped in Grant Park to visit a local statue that the girls like. What a fun morning!

And She’s Off!

Sloane is off and riding on her BIG purple bike that she got for her birthday, sans training wheels! To be honest, after her first few attempts, we thought it may be next summer before she’d really be able to ride independently. However, we were turned on to the idea of a balance bike about a month ago and we went ahead and purchased a small one for her to use this summer (and then pass on to her sisters in the future) and put the big bike on the back burner for now.

After 3 weeks on the balance bike and using it as much as possible she was really doing great and wanting to try the birthday bike again. Greg got out all of her “safety” gear and headed to the park last Saturday while the other kids were napping. Within a half hour I received a video showing Sloane riding around the park all by herself! What a fantastic surprise. We are so excited for her and are now pretty big advocates for the balance bike!

Easter Kites

The Easter Bunny surprised the girls with two fancy kites this year! Thankfully living in the Windy City, makes nearly any day perfect for kite flying.

Sloane and Reese had a great time, while Quinn watched from the sidelines. Lucky for her she had Olivia coming by to check on her periodically and even lay next to her for a bit. Such a sweet girl!

Little Architects

Greg and the girls spent an afternoon last weekend putting together Frank Lloyd Wright’s LEGO Fallingwater. It is 815 pieces and the girls couldn’t get enough. They had so much fun looking for pieces and putting them in the correct place while Greg navigated through the lengthy instruction manual. They didn’t leave his side for nearly 4 hours and were determined to finish it in one day. Thankfully they did, and they even signed and dated the bottom so they could remember their fun day!
