Settling Down For Winter

Since our last full length post, we’ve had a lot going on. We celebrated a nice Thanksgiving in which I did my 1st BIG Thanksgiving Dinner! Surprisingly enough, everything was edible and even pretty tasty. The leftovers ensured a few more Thanksgiving meals as well. We enjoyed getting out all of our “nice” dishes and spending time with each other for the first Thanksgiving in our house.

The day after Thanksgiving, we made a 45 minute trek to Eby’s Tree Farm in Bristol IN. It was opening day and there were a lot of Christmas trees to choose from. We spent about an hour searching for our perfect Christmas tree and found just the one! This was our first attempt at cutting our own and we’re thinking it may be a regular thing. It was a lot of fun. The next day we cruised into Chicago for Polar Express event at the Shedd Aquarium. They were showing an 30 minute version of the movie in 4D (the seat moved, they sprayed you with water and other crazy stuff). The event also included some cookie decorating, a Santa visit, a water show, and access to the Aquarium. We thought Sloane would totally dig the aquarium; she’s always asking to see the fish whenever we go to WalMart or Meijer. But, she was pretty much done after the first tank. Greg kept asking her if she wanted to see more and she said she’d already seen them. So much for that. Reese, however, kept running from tank to tank saying, “sheesy, sheesy” (fishy, fishy). Hilarious. My Dad and Stepmom were able to come to town to deliver some Christmas gifts for the girls as well. The girls loved seeing them and we had a great time while they were here.

Although we have stayed busy this month, we also found time to relax and do some baking and crafts with the girls. Sloane and I have made a lot of sweets and goodies for neighbors and friends, not to mention our fair share of “junk” for our own house. We had a really nice time making homemade gingerbread houses and reindeer shirts too! There is no time for boredom in our crazy house…that’s for sure!

As if our girls did not have a fulfilled December, there was one more surprise this past weekend. Popi and Grandma drove up from DC to deliver a little Christmas to the girls. We kept their quick trip a secret and surprised Sloane and Reese with their arrival. The weekend flew by but we still squeezed in a Lowe’s workshop with Popi, our usual trip to Krispy Kreme, and some sledding in our first real snowfall. Kinda ironic that Greg’s parents left northern Virginia and nearly two feet of snowfall, for a few inches in South Bend. Go figure.

It’s so hard to believe Christmas is only 2 days away. With the exception of a few instances, our girls have managed to get on to Santa’s good list and are anxiously awaiting his arrival on Christmas Eve. There is still a lot of “parent prep” before the big day, but we are looking forward to an exciting Christmas morning with 2 toddlers! Should be F-U-N! As always we’ll take lots of pics and update the site before the new year!
