Fun in the Sun

It’s been another fun-filled month of activities for the Anderson girls! With the arrival of nicer (although not quite as warm as we think it should be) weather, we have been able to get out and do some fun stuff.
May was national fire safety month so I arranged a visit to the local fire station. The fireman gave us a tour of the facilities and the girls got to “drive” the fire trucks. They got a really big kick out of how huge everything was and liked hearing the sirens on the trucks. Now, every time we are in the car and Sloane sees a fire truck, she makes her own siren sounds in the back seat.
The girls were invited to a pizza/pool party at their friend Austin’s house in May as well. The weather was gorgeous and just perfect for playing outside. Reese and I basked in the sun, while Sloane splashed in the pool with all of her friends. She got to wear her new bathing suit for the first time and didn’t forget her beloved shades!
With summer comes bugs—and with bugs comes a very scared Sloane. Somewhere, Sloane picked up this crazy fear of bugs, flies in particular. Whenever she hears/sees a fly buzzing around, she will put her hands over her head and run screaming and crying to the closest adult. Sad, but quite ridiculous! Thankfully, Popi came to visit a few weeks ago and equipped Sloane with some bug fighting tactics. Now when she sees a fly, she waves her hands and says, “GO AWAY FLY!” This has worked so well that she attempts it with every bug. We hear her in the front yard saying, “Go away bee, Go away butterfly.” With her new coping skills, she has also managed to find enough confidence to become friends with the bugs. She follows little ants across our driveway trying to pick them up, but they’re just a bit too quick. She also managed to find an innocent little caterpillar on our porch the other day. She picked it up (while nearly hugging it to death between her two tiny fingers) and let it crawl on her arm. It seems as though she has conquered her fear of bugs. Thanks Popi!
Our little Reese is growing up fast. She is starting to do funny little things in order to see what kind of reaction she can get out of us. She really enjoys shaking her head from left to right, while we say “no,no,no!” She smiles from ear to ear and gets a real kick out of it. She is also opening and closing her hand to say “bye bye” and sometimes she’ll attempt to say bye bye too. Her favorite thing to do is find something she can drape over her head and play peek-a-boo! So far, her dresses seem to be working best, which is probably not the most lady like approach to a game of peek-a-boo! We’ll keep working on that.
Reese is also doing a great job of walking (while I hold onto her hands). She’s really cruising pretty quickly, but she’s still lacking the balance she needs to take off independently. I have no doubt she’ll be racing around after Sloane in no time at all. I’m just not sure Sloane is ready for it.
We hope everyone’s summer is off to a nice start. Thanks for checking in!
